Its not as easy as it looks on HGTV! House buying, that is. Last week you did not hear from me, reader. I was a little melancholy for a couple of days, AND it takes ALOT to get me down. Typically I post on Wednesdays. On Tuesday morning, we placed an offer on a home, that we were sure we were going to get (bidding against several offers), however that evening, we found out that it had gone to another couple.
What was going through my mind:
1. Why can’t we know by how much we lost it?
2. Why can’t people bid against each other, and then…when you hit your limit, your out? Wouldn’t you be okay with that?
3. My imaginative “design diorama” for where all our furniture would go, dinners to be eaten, and garden parties to be held….was destroyed within a matter of finding out… “they went with the other offer”. And what has been so difficult is that each house you view, you are somewhat invested in. Your picturing in your mind, what your future could look like…
What I have learned through these last 3 weeks:
In TX right now: its a sellers market
-homes are going for listing price and more often than not higher than listing price with multiple bidders
-homes that are listed on a Monday morning, are usually under contract by that evening (within 12 hours…in the DFW area at least)
-for the market now…you might put in a few bids and lose…but stay POSITIVE..because the right home, with the right layout, is out there, so just be patient.
-pictures can be very deceiving. A lot of photographers will use a wide angle lens when taking pictures of the interior…making the inside look more spacious than in actuality.
Short post…I know…just hang in there with me! I’ve got alot on my mind.
Keeping my fingers crossed that your family finds the perfect house soon! 🙂
Thanks! I appreciate it:)
The perfect timing will come…i just know it! Hang in there!
I know. I just really feels some days, that we will never find a house, but I need to just stay on the positive thinking train.
Hang in there, try not to be so discouraged by this! 🙂 The right house is there! (about photographs; is true, they do make the spaces look more spacious than they are and then when you get there it’s not the same thing)
Totally. I know its out there…its just this whole waiting game. I am literally online last thing at night and first thing in the morning, checking for new home listings. lol. The photographs can be very deceiving for sure!
Good luck with your search. Sometimes I think it is helpful to take a tape measure with you when you look at houses. Measure the rooms you currently LIVE in, draw yourself a little floor plan, so you KNOW that your current living room is X by X; and when you visit a house, MEASURE that living room. Since you KNOW the space you currently live in, it will help you get a better feel for the house you look at. A lot of realtors have the floor plan of the house you are looking at, with room dimensions. Don’t get discouraged, and don’t fall in love until you are moving in. Real estate isn’t what makes a home, YOU make the home. Good luck.
What a wonderful idea! I have never heard that one before. I am definitely NOT getting attached anymore..my husband told me the same thing…as long as it has good bones, “we” make the home.
It takes courage and an acceptance of vulnerability to put yourself out there like that regarding your housing situation. Wishing you the best of luck 🙂
Thanks Cathy! I have high hopes of finding the house in the next month or so!!
