Getting ready a fundraising gala for Young Life, I was excited to try some of fall’s make-up trends, specifically oxblood lips, gold smokey eyes, and metallic nails. New lipsticks make me happy, and when I found Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers, I was instantly smitten. Their shade “Plum” is the perfect amount of color, while it being slightly sheer keeps it from looking goth, especially on someone with a light complexion like me. Plus, the fact that its 100% natural makes me not have to worry about ingesting chemicals like lead while eating or sipping cocktails. (Plus priced at around $5 you can’t go wrong!)
To balance out the dark lips, designers this fall have been lightening up the classic smokey eye with browns, golds, and even colors instead of the traditional black and grays. I used Maybelline Mineral Powder in Finishing Veil Bronzing Powder in the corners and creases of my eyes. I thought this golden shade of bronzer would be the right amount of shading and shine to lend a little drama for this evening event.
Mary Kay “Supersonic” nail polish has an almost matte look to it, with a gold shimmer when the light hits it. This shade picks up on the fall trend of metallic nails without being too flashy, while the gold flecks make it fun and wearable throughout the fall into the holidays.
